As lobbying firms rush to sign up Tories, Portland has done well to snare the rather glamourous candidate for Bristol North West. As I recently reported at prweek.com, Charlotte Leslie joins hot in the heels of Portland’s other recent Tory hire, George Eustice.
But how long will the two Tories at Tim Allan’s agency be sticking around for?
Leslie’s seat is a key target for the Tories in the next election while Eustice has been selected to fight a three-way marginal in the South West. Portland is probably gambling that can hang on to at least one of them. But even if the agency loses both consultants, it will at least be able to console itself with the fact that it has a direct line to a couple of rising stars in the new parliament.
Not that this type of thing matters any more in public affairs, of course.
