Simon Lewis in line for Downing Street comms job

Over the last few days it has been rumoured that Gordon Brown is looking lure a senior PR to Downing Steet. But who would do it?

Well, it looks like former Vodafone corporate affairs director Simon Lewis (his brother is Telegraph ed Will) could be about to take the plunge. The FT has the details.

Don’t miss the crucial line: ‘He is an old aquaintance of Peter Mandelson…’

UPDATE: Weber Shandwick boss Colin Byrne gives Lewis the seal of approval, tweeting that he’s a ‘good guy, great PR professional’. But Bell Pottinger’s top lobbyist Peter Bingle seems to have some doubts. Bingle describes the news as ‘astonishing’. He adds: ‘If Simon Lewis is going to Number 1O a Tory victory is assured.’

  1. I wonder if that magic Lewis has will rub off on Brown. To be sure, he must be pretty good if he won the public back to the Queen after Princess Di’s death. Maybe this is too much of a challenge.
