The Sunday Express reports that ‘ministers were under fire last night after e-mails were published showing how lobbyists shaped a proposed ban on cigarette displays in shops’.
Sounds shocking eh? Well it’s really not…
According to the paper, secret emails reveal ‘close relations between Department of Health officials and anti-smoking campaigners Ash and Cancer Research UK… One lobbyist was even allowed to work inside the DoH.’
So someone from Cancer Research UK was seconded to DoH to help with a bit of research about, er, cancer?
It wouldn’t surprise me to see a big story about lobbyists and access in the run up to the general election – but my hunch is that this ain’t it.
