Former Downing Street Strategy chief Stephen (Lord) Carter has a new job.
Some 16 months after he left the Number Ten bunker, the bespectacled one-time PR exec is to become chief marketing and strategy officer at for Alcatel-Lucent.
Let’s hope they treat him a bit better than the boys at Downing Street did.
Just what he was up against in the bunker is spelled out quite clearly in Andrew Rawnsley’s new book, End of the Party:
‘”Stephen was a really nice bloke,” comments one civil servant. “He just didn’t know what he was letting himself in for. They made a decision to fuck this guy. By April, it was transparent to everyone in the building that he was dead.”‘
